Neve ParitzkiJerusalem inaugurates Israel's first cycling tunnel.

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a the most unique riding and hiking experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bike tunnel, opened as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle route is located around Jerusalem.

The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park.  נווה פריצקי The northern entrance can be located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company chairman, and hundreds of cyclists.

Elkin added that in addition to its historic treasures, modern tourism is also integrated into Jerusalem's city.  נווה פריצקי "The opening of this tunnel project is a further part of the development of Jerusalem's city Jerusalem as well as its development into a dazzling tourist city for all types of audiences in Israel and throughout the globe."

Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and the development of exciting tourist attractions and ventures that link the fascinating history of our capital city's eternal past to the future of Jerusalem... I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a a well-maintained, modern cycle route, which overlooks the stunning nature of Old Jerusalem.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the vision of altering the way of transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel that connects to Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing paths for bicycles and those that will paved in its neighborhoods. It's designed to encourage biking within the city's residents and to promote the green transport revolution in the capital."



The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

The work currently in progress includes road construction, the installation of blowers as well as modern safety and electrical systems in order to ensure that the tunnel is secure for pedestrians to travel through throughout the year.

The Kerem Tunnel provides access to exclusive recreation spots, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as well as the natural springs of historical significance Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
