As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists participated in a ceremony to mark the opening of the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Elkin who is in charge of the project in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests hundreds of millions in the city's tourism growth and in the creation innovative attractions and ventures that link the rich history of Jerusalem to the future. I encourage you to take your bicycles along a stunning, well-maintained route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

The project was funded by Elkin's ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the goal to redefine the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem." This will increase cycling and encourage green transportation in the capital.
